Looking to play and learn Afro-Cuban/Brazilian orixa ritual songs

Posted in Afro-Cuban Ritual Drumming 5 months ago, 4 replies

I just moved here from Cleveland where I played Brazilian and Afro-Cuban percussion - many songs used in Yoruban/Umbanda rituals about and for the orixas. Any idea if such groups exist here? I have congas rather than djembes....

Hey Lisa,

Welcome to San Diego. I don't have an answer for you as such, but in the post below, there is a Meet Up group that might be able to help you. I am very impressed by this group, and maybe someone there could have an answer to your question. Also there is a forum on www.drumcafewest.com that might be worth posting on.

Kind regards,

Simon

Thanks so much for the suggestion! I have submitted my request for membership to the SOCAL drum group and look forward to meet-ups coming up.

See you there!
